Pictures from 7/6/2012

Since 2008' we've been dreaming of coming back to Mister Donut !! LOL. It is quite possibly the best donut in the world. And y'all know I'm an expert on donuts !!!

Rental bikes on the street. Cool concept !!

Friday 7/6/2012 in front of Taipei 101. Sheryl and a very worn out Olivia.
David and Olivia. 7/6/12. This picture was taken before the three meltdowns that happened today. Two of the meltdowns were Olivia's. The third belonged to David and actually happened while Olivia was having her 2nd one. LOL. Her 1st meltdown was legit and was because she got freaked out by the crowds rushing toward the food court at lunch time. Anyone who has been to Taipei 101 in the food court at noon knows what I'm talking about. Its a free for all. People everywhere, wall to wall, and the noise level is deafening. Olivia doesn't like crowds, just like her Daddy, and she pretty much lost it. So David and Olivia made it to a secluded part of the mall and I went to McDonalds in the food court and got lunch for us. For them it was horrible and nervewracking, but for me - I loved it !!! The throngs of people, all the chatter, everyone dressed so smart and trendy. It was awesome. Once I got the food, We went out and ate in a quiet place and all was well for a while. Until the toy store incident....... We were at a toy store and letting Olivia run around a bit, play with things, etc. After about 30 minutes, we were ready to go but apparently Olivia was not. So David picked her up and started to leave and she starts screaming (at the top of her lungs) Daddy NOOOOOOOO, I don't want to go. I want my mommmmmmmmeeeeeeeeeeeee. AAAAAHHHHHH NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! Something to that effect. Well, I hung back a bit, thinking maybe all would be ok, or maybe people would think I was there alone, but um.....no..... He was so upset and freaked out from her yelling and screaming like that. So that's when he melted down. LOL. He was hopping up and down mad as a hornet and we were both mortified and embarrassed. I waited for the Taiwanese police to rush us, thinking we were kidnapping Olivia, or maybe that we all needed to be institutionalized. But no one came to take us away. We just got a lot of stares from people that were probably either feeling really embarrassed for us, or they were thinking we were terrible parents. Either way, it was loads of fun. But believe it or not, I was all good on the outside !!!! I've mastered the art of neutralizing my 'oh dear God, I can't believe that just happened' face.

Awesome !!!! Folks doing Tai'Chi on the sidewalk outside of the Taipei Convention Center. They were doing this right in the middle of construction workers replacing tie down lines supporting trees. 7/6/2012

Looking up at Taipei 101. 7/6/2012

Overall, it was a great 1st full day and Olivia, despite her moments, has been hanging in there on this wild adventure like a real trooper. This is a lot for any adult to handle. But for a 4 year old to do as good as she is doing is pretty impressive.

Sheryl

  2. Really? no picture of the donut? I would love to go back. Hope ate a belly full. Tell David we had our own adult meltdowns while there in 2008. It's all good. If anyone stared, they should go to a foreign country with a young child and have the nervousness of #2 coming on board soon!
