Chung Yi - 7/10/2012

After the zoo, we went to McDonalds to get the kids lunch. We were able to cool off enough to think straight again. Now we had to get over to Chung Yi, quickly. Even though we went through a bunch of paperwork and checklists and received all of Kendall's belongings at the Nursery the day before, we still had to go to Chung Yi in order to get additional documents. Chung Yi was still officially in charge of Kendall, even though she was living at the Nursery across town. So, as hot and sweaty and done in as we all were, we got to Chung Yi and went through that additional emotional roller coaster.

The entrance to Chung Yi.

Inside the front door at Chung Yi. Olivia was fascinated by these fish in this little tank. Mainly because it was low enough that she could reach in and try to grab them.

Olivia, Alma, Kendall and Wen headed down the street to the conference room at Chung Yi.

Waaaaaaayyyyyy down the street.
The conference room is on the right of where David is standing. It's where the plate glass window is. This is the room where our Gotcha Day with Olivia was.

Alma, Jill (our driver and translator) and Mommy completing more paperwork. It is so sweet how they do this. They have mugs with the flag of the adopting country, water, snacks, etc. There was also a little flag of Taiwan and the USA up in the room. It was the same way when we had Olivia's Gotcha Day.

Olivia figured out there were interesting things happening at this end of the table, so she got involved, too.
Kendall patiently waiting for this mess to all be over.
Olivia using the "chop" stamp with Kendall's Taiwanese name on it. Its a signature stamp that is used whenever the name is signed. When they asked us about the one we had received when we did Olivia's paperwork, I told them we never got one like that. They were shocked and they immediately offered to get us one made. We offered to pay and figured it would be shipped to us. About 10 minutes later someone ran in with one hot off the press from a printing shop (chop shop?) down the street. It was amazing. They showed us how to use it and Olivia stamped everything in sight.

Olivia playing with Kendall's chop and Mommy still figuring stuff out.

So after we were done with everything and getting ready to take the last picture, we noticed lots of Gotcha Day photos on one of the walls. I started looking at dates and was trying to find the one of us with Olivia in 2008. Once they figured out I was looking for it, the Director ran around to all of the photos throughout the offices looking for it. Way back in the staff conference room in the back of the main building, they found us on the wall. It was awesome. She took us back there and we took pictures of the old photo with us and Olivia. The significance of the event was lost on Olivia, but that is fine, it meant the world to us.

Take 10 - trying to get an official Gotcha Day photo.

Take 24.......
Take 123.........Trying to get Olivia to laugh.
After 246 tries from about 17 photographers, this is Kendall's official Gotcha Day photo on 7/10/2012, even though our actual Gotcha Day was on 7/9/2012. I'm exaggerating a bit on the number of takes and photographers, but not by much.

  1. Oh, my gosh!! Chung Yi looks exactly the same as when we were there almost 3 years ago. I never knew they kept those pictures on the wall. How wonderful to see yours!! And taking that official family day picture brings back some great memories! It seems like Kendall is adjusting well and her appetite is amazing. Enjoy the rest of your stay in Taiwan!
